Sean Dower is a visual artist who works across media including sculpture, photography, video and sound. He has exhibited internationally in galleries, museums and other contexts since the early 1990s and has been engaged in music and live-performance since the early 1980s.
Dower’s work has been included in exhibitions at MOMA New York, TATE BRITAIN, THE ROYAL ACADEMY OF ARTS, London, W139 Amsterdam, MATT’s MALLERY London and DE LA WARR PAVILION, UK.
Dower’s artworks often explore the loopholes implicit in consciousness, technology and social structures. Utilising processes of improvisation and chance, the physical outcomes of his practice continue to shift in medium and subject matter. The resulting diversity of output might appear to undermine notions of artistic strategy or ‘signature’, but his oeuvre does have recurrent themes, which include: the ‘live-event’, spatial disorientation and black humour.
