Mark Eley & Jon Whitbread

Biography

Jon took one element of Mark and Wakako’s (Mark Eley and Wak Kishimoto (Eley Wishimoto) iconic repeating pattern FLASH andre-appropriated it from its normal 2 dimensional form to hand carve in 3 dimensions in Jurassic fossiliferous limestone (Ancaster Weatherbed) remarkable for its two colours and dense fossil.
The Flash motif lends itself naturally to Jon’s investigation of primal and mythic iconography. The stone itself coming from a long forgotten time has a beautiful grey and fawn colour and a depth of composition that is evident in its effervescence.

Hand carved in 2012 and a collaboration borne from neighbourly love.
